What if your products worked for you – not the other way around?
Why This Matters
Ever feel like your products are running you ragged instead of giving you freedom? You’re not alone. Many entrepreneurs fall into the trap of building offers that drain them. But here’s the truth: Your products should support your life, not steal your time. You deserve a business that works with your lifestyle – one that gives you time for family dinners, mental health days, and spontaneous dance parties with your kids. (Been there!)
In this post, we’ll break down how to create lifestyle products that give you freedom, alignment, and sustainable income—because you deserve a business that feels good and fits your life.
My Story: From Burnout to Balance
When I started my first online business back in 2009, I believed I had to launch all the things to succeed. But between raising three incredible neurodivergent kids (one with a physical disability on top of that) and managing my own battles with anxiety, depression, and PTSD, I was stretched thin. Burnout wasn’t a risk – it was my reality.
And that was a reality I couldn’t live in, because burnout was the trigger for me to start an online business in the first place. I had to find that work/life balance everyone was talking about – even back then.
The turning point? Realizing my offers needed to work for me, not against me. And over the years, I’ve simplified, streamlined, and created products that aligned with my capacity and values. The result? More income, more freedom, and more time for what truly matters.
How to Create Products That Complement Your Lifestyle
1. Audit Your Existing Offers
Before creating new products, take stock of what you already have. Ask:
- Does this product energize or drain me? Be brutally honest. If it drains you, why keep it?
- Is the income worth the effort? Some offers might look good on paper but require unsustainable energy.
- How much time does it take weekly? If it eats into your family or self-care time, consider tweaking or retiring it.
Tip: Use my Product Alignment Checklist to quickly assess which products deserve your energy. (Grab it at the end of this post!)
2. Design with Balance in Mind
Now that you know what’s working (and what’s not), let’s design products that fit your lifestyle.
- Opt for Flexible Income Streams: Think digital courses, evergreen webinars, or self-paced memberships. These products earn while you sleep or spend time with loved ones.
- Build Flexible Timelines: Launch dates and delivery schedules should fit your life. Your business, your rules. Planning a vacation or need downtime? Let your schedule reflect that.
- Align Offers with Your Strengths: If creating video content stresses you out, don’t force it. Prefer writing? Create e-books or guides. Love coaching? Design short, intensive sessions that don’t require ongoing time commitments.
Personal Share: For me, coaching products (like recorded workshops) were a game-changer when I needed flexible work hours due to my family’s unique needs.
3. Simplify Your Product Suite
You don’t need 10 products to be successful. Focus on a few high-impact offers:
- Pro tip: More isn’t better. Trim products that don’t light you up or fit your schedule.
- Automate What You Can: Use tech to automate onboarding, emails, and product delivery. (Check out my upcoming post on tech tools that simplify your life!)
- Gather Feedback for Long-Term Success: Your audience evolves – and so should your products. Regularly ask: Is this still serving my life and my clients?
BONUS (for action takers like you): Craft Your Ideal Workweek
Exercise: Grab a planner and block time for your non-negotiables: family, rest, hobbies. Now, slot in work hours. Design products that fit these pockets of time, not the other way around.
KISS Tip (still for action takers like you) : Quick Product Alignment Exercise
Take 10 minutes:
- List your current products.
- Rate each on a scale of 1–5 for: Joy, Profitability, Effort, Alignment.
- Anything scoring below a 3 on joy and alignment? Consider pivoting or phasing it out.
Short. Simple. Game-changing.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about building a successful business – it’s about creating a life you love. Your products should fuel your passions, honor your boundaries, and reflect the unique values that matter most to you.
Here’s the truth: Alignment isn’t a luxury; it’s essential. When your business complements your lifestyle, you’re no longer stuck choosing between success and sanity. You can have both.
Your journey is yours alone. Don’t feel pressured to follow someone else’s blueprint. Your life experiences, challenges, and triumphs have given you wisdom that deserves to be honored in how you build and deliver your products. You have the power to create a business that feels good, sustainable, and right for you.
So here’s my invitation:
- Say yes to rest without guilt.
- Say yes to offers that energize you.
